Residentials
Carlton Lodge
Young people have been busy over the half term holidays with 2 outdoor residentials to Carlton Lodge. Carlton Lodge is situated in an ideal location on the borders of both the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. The girls group visited the centre on the 8-10th February 2008. The boys group visited the centre on the 15-17th February 2008.
The group participated in a wide range of activities including archery which was relaxing, enjoyable and virtually anyone could do it. We still haven’t worked out what Kashif & Idris were aiming at. Empowering young people
The challenge course helped the group to work together in tackling a variety of challenges, based around the different frame elements that made up the course. This was a perfect opportunity to introduce and develop the need for individuals to work together to ensure team success. One of the rules was that you couldn’t touch your feet on the floor and the boys team including Jazz, Richard, Phil, Brough, Mathew & Robert completed the course without losing a life. Impossible is nothing
The climbing wall was immensely variable and fun, Climbing was great for individual achievement and for establishing trust, with group members given responsibility for each other’s safety, under close instructor supervision. Enjoying & Achieving
For adrenaline junkies the high ropes offered high-octane excitement leaping into the air and crossing balance beams high above the floor. It also offered unlimited scope for personal and team development with opportunities to achieve for all. We were struggling to get Rachel Sharp, Rachel Scott, Abbey Butterworth and Saffeena Shahir to jump off. Personal Development & Team Building
Kayaking was popular in single person boats. Most learnt new skills, practised old ones and simply had fun in a controlled environment; while the individual and group had success through a number of games and tasks. Learning new skills
Orienteering was a great course set up in the local forest, a wide variety of routes made for a seemingly endless exploration. Map reading skills and quick and accurate choice of route made this a challenge for the group. Congratulations to Zohfina, Jess, Amy, Alex, Chloe, Safeena Mahboob for winning in the quickest time over the 2 residentials. Challenging, Exploring, Adventuress
Problem Solving was an excellent chance to improve listening; co-operating and delegation skills. A number of these problem solving tasks were presented to the group and they discussed, planned and executed the agreed solution. Listening, Co-operating, Delegating
Raft building was a design and construction exercise that was ideal for developing teamwork skills within a hugely enjoyable context. Barrels, planks and rope provided the basis of a raft that would carry the whole group across the lake and back. Fizzy needed some help from Trevor to get on the raft and Matthew and Phil ended up in the freezing water. Designing, Constructing, Teamwork
Zip Wire was for those who liked both speed and heights, and our group loved it. It offered personal development and achievement through conquering fears, with an adrenaline rush that they won’t forget, Conquering fears 4eva
